• Harvest Bulletin 2022

    The wine-growing area P.G.E Drama includes the whole prefecture of Drama in
    which unfolds a vineyard of about 5 thousand acres. The vineyards are
    installed at an altitude of 80-500 meters, mostly on land
    sandy loam.
    The interaction of the climatic conditions, the composition of the soils of the area, the
    cultivated varieties, the applied cultivation care of the vine and the
    winemaking techniques shape the quality characteristics of PGE Drama wines.
    Fertile soils complex relief, rivers, lakes, forests make up the ideal
    topographical and mechanical configuration for wine production, in which the area has a large
    tradition. the Mediterranean climate with mild winters and dry hot summers creates ideal
    conditions.
    The international varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah,
    Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir thrive giving very good results. There are also
    Greek Assyrtiko, Limnio, Malagouzia, Moschomavro, Agiorgitiko Muscat of Alexandria and
    there is a plan for new plantings of other Greek varieties.
    The privately owned vineyards of the winery are located in the wider area of ​​Drama,
    in Hadriani, Doxato and the Agora.
    Weather conditions in winter 2021-2022 developed with normal temperatures,
    without extreme effects. Spring 2022 had several rains and temperatures lower than
    normal at the time, which contributed to the delayed tearing, swelling of the eyes and
    flowering, about 15 days since last year. Then came less rain and
    rise in temperature with the result that fruit set and percasmus are behind
    last year 7 days.
    The harvest started for Sauvignon Blanc on August 20. The white ones followed
    varieties of Malagouzia and Moschato of Alexandria and then rains started which hindered
    the harvest. As only the reds Merlot, Syrah, Limnio, Moschomavro, Agiorgitiko were left
    Cabernet Sauvignon and Assyrtiko had no disease problem. The grapes were in
    good condition and with Baume larger than usual, acidity and PH balanced. The
    harvest as always in the last 8 years, it was nocturnal,
    At this moment the white and rosé wines are in the stage of maturation above
    in the fine muds and at the completion of the Malolactic fermentation for the reds. The red
    varieties had an increased phenolic load. Early indications are that it will be a good year
    for whites and an excellent one for reds..
